On Friday, Nov. 13 kindergarten through fourth grade attended the performance of "Jack and the Wonder Beans" by James Still at Clearbrook Elementary School.
"Jack and the Wonder Beans" is different from a typical theater setting. Here, students are encouraged to interact throughout the show with the actors, which is called participation theater.
The cast included: Jack (Ryan Webster), Mam/Chicken Woman (Samantha Clifford), Gypsy/ High Tall Giant Woman (Megan Corsnitz), Carpenter/Giant (Jordan Henderson), Storytellers/ Musicians (Rita Yoe (fiddle), Jordan O'Brien (guitar), and Haley Thomsen (autoharp).
About the play:
All is well for Jack and his Mam. They have their home roof, a patch of land, and a cow. One spring, when the cow goes dry, life on Wolfpen Creek has to change. In hard times no one wants to buy a cow "dry as a hat." Jack trades his bossy to a Gypsy for "seeds." That's when the real trouble starts. His adventures with the High Tall Giant Woman and her husband teach him that "the simple life is right for Jack."
On Dec. 6, Roanoke College Theatre did a final performance in Olin Theatre on the Roanoke College Campus to benefit Toys for Tots.
