Parents got a dose of what their children's schedule is like during a normal school day, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. during Back to School Night. Teachers went over their expectations and things that they have been working on thus far in the school year. Students were eager to show their parents their recent work, their desks, and their artwork displayed on the walls.
Hidden Valley High School hosts Tailgate Dinner to welcome freshman families
Hidden Valley High School Band Boosters held a tailgate on Friday, Sept. 4, at 5:30 p.m. for all freshman band families. Many came out to enjoy the food and fellowship prior to the home football game. The group met in the field next to Cave Spring Middle School's upper parking lot.
The Band Boosters provided drinks and fried chicken. Upperclassmen's families whose names begin with A-R brought side dishes to share, while those whose names begin with S-Z brought desserts.
Families of freshmen were invited as guests.
Green Valley Back to School Night
Just a few weeks ago, students at Green Valley Elementary School were meeting their classmates and their teachers for the year. But Tuesday, Sept. 8, was a little different story as children anxiously sat in on a PTA meeting at Green Valley and then rushed their parents in the hallways to see their recent school work and artwork on display.
Two Hidden Valley Middle School students succeed during Space Camp
Two of Hidden Valley Middle students attended Space Camp this past summer in Huntsville, Ala.: a seventh-grader, Joseph Robertson, and eighth-grader Alex Filip.
Not only did they have a fun and educating experience, but they met retired astronauts and participated in the Robotics challenge, where Camp records were broken. Participants were divided into groups of four students and their challenge was to build a robot which later was to participate in many challenges and battles.
Joseph's team of four has one the entire challenge and the group, Differential, that Alex and Joseph was on generated and scored the highest points of all the teams participating in the summer camp program.
We are all so proud of their accomplishments and the way they represented our little town of Roanoke where some of the participants came from Italy, France, Spain and all of the US.
Joseph is the son of Caren and David Robertson and Alex is the son of Barbara and Bogdan Filip.
The Space Camp lasted from Aug. 2 to 7.
