Rummage, bake sale at Beth Israel

The Sisterhood of Beth Israel Synagogue will be hold a Spring Stimulus Rummage and Bake Sale on Sunday, March 7 (10 a.m.-3 p.m.), and Monday, March 8 (9 a.m.- 2 p.m.), at 920 Franklin Rd. SW in Roanoke. Proceeds fund the various community projects of the sisterhood. Shop early for the best selections. Special sale markdowns on Monday.

Huckle makes dean's list at Shenandoah University

Nigel Huckle made the dean's list for fall 2009 at the Conservatory of Shenandoah University in Winchester.

He's a graduate of Hidden Valley High School and was an ensemble member of the Kevin Jones Performing Arts Studio for the four years of high school.

He sang at Hidden Valley High School's 2009 commencement and also held the lead role in the school's annual drama programs, notably "Dr. Jekyll & Mr Hyde" and "Godspell."

Huckle is a Musical Theatre major i at Shenandoah University. He is the son of Elize Magruther of Roanoke.

Student inducted into English honor society

Elijah Ammen, son of David and Elizabeth Ammen of Roanoke, has been inducted into the Bryan College chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, an English honor society. Sigma Tau Delta is open to English students who have distinguished themselves academically and who are interested in promoting interest in literature and the English language.
