Teen events in July at Roanoke County Public Library

The Roanoke County Public Library system has the following events scheduled for July at the headquarters/419 library at 3131 Electric Road. For more information, call 772-7507.
"Fourth Thursday" Adult Book Club
Thursday (July 23)
Morning Club: 10:00 am

A Pen Warmed-Up in Hell by Mark Twain
Project Teenway Competition: Teens will be able to express their fashion creativity in teams by coming up with a quick design made from scrap fabric and paper to dress one of their team members with, then these designs will be compared and judged by members of the library staff.
Registration will be required in advance as space is limited; contact the local county library hosting the event for reservations.
HQ/419 - Tuesday, July 14th, 12-2 PM
Altered Art Travel Journals: Teens will create travel journals based on their favorite vacation spot or a trip they dream of taking in the future. Old maps, travel photos, and card stock paper will be used to transform old books into new journals for recording your favorite travel memories and wishes. Registration will be required in advance as space is limited; contact the local county library hosting the event for reservations.

Manga Drawing Contest for Teens
In July there will also be a Manga Drawing Contest for Teens.
Teen Mystery Night
On Friday, July 24, the HQ/419 Library will host a Teen Mystery Night at 6:30-8:30. Registration will be required in advance as space is limited; contact the HQ/419 Library at 772-7507 for reservations.
Nintendo DS Drawing: There will be a drawing at the end of the Summer Reading Program. All teens who sign-up for summer reading and complete the program will have their names included in a drawing to win a Nintendo DS. Also for those teens who participate in the programs offered they will get an additional chance in the Nintendo DS drawing that will take place on August 5th.

Cave Spring Baptist Church will be having "Vacation Bible for the Family" on July 12-16 from 6:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m:

Penn Forest Christian Church is pleased to announce that its 2009 Vacation Bible School will be held Sunday, July 19, to Thursday, July 23, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The Bible school will include friends, games, crafts, Bible adventures, snacks, and music. Penn Forest Christian Church is located at 3028 Penn Forest Blvd.
EMS awards ceremony
Western Virginia Emergency Medical Services Council recently held its Regional Emergency Medical Service Awards ceremony and EMS appreciation event. Eleven individuals and organizations were recognized for outstanding accomplishments and achievements in emergency medical services in the council's 12-county region.
Among them were:
Scholarship for Outstanding Contribution to EMS by a High School Senior: The winner was Christine Hanna of Roanoke Catholic School, for her work with the Cave Spring First Aid and Rescue Squad.
Outstanding EMS Physician: Jeffrey D. Turner, MD, Carilion Clinic
Outstanding Contribution to EMS, Paul T. Frantz, MD, Carilion Clinic

Academic award
On May 28 Savannah Kramer was awarded an Academic Letter, Excellent Attendance and Social Studies/Civics department award from Hidden Valley Middle School.
