News of a far-flung Salemite, plus a local invitation:

On a recent rainy day some locals were talking about the weather -- of course.

Their observations? "Sure, we need rain; we're still recovering from droughts. We've had so many 'crispy' years that we've forgotten what rainy spells are like."

Those lines are frequently followed by "aren't you glad you don't live in Seattle?" Ah, that Land of Clouds! Its dank days would be quite the challenge to those of us already bearing internal clouds.

Yet the young'n's flock to the Left Coast. Frankie Mitchell Robbins of Salem said she was dazzled by Seattle's young, lively scene.

She and husband Dave were among the Greater Salemites trekking to Seattle to witness the wedding of former Salemite Peter Moran.

How's that for burying the lead? Or am I just gently breaking the news of Peter's new status to single women?

Yes, sorry, girls, but he is no longer available. (Pause for sighs.)

You might remember that the son of Salem natives Dave and Sharon Moran (now of Smith Mountain Lake) was a certified hot bachelor. Really, Peter has the documentation to prove it: "People" magazine named him one of the year 2000's Most Eligible Bachelors.

Sharon e-mailed that Peter had worked as a Snowshoe ski instructor and marketer, then for Red Bull energy drinks.

Now he has started the Rezin sports marketing company. Clients? The Seattle Seahawks, the Navy's Blue Angels (he's "one of the few civilians to have flown with [them] during an actual show"), soccer legend Casey Keller, and the NFL's Neil Rackers and Josh Brown (not Salem's Josh Brown): www.Rezinmarketing.com.

Josh Brown is Peter's good friend who performed the wedding ceremony -- which "made Josh more nervous than anything ever," reported Sharon.

Other Salem and Roanoke County guests to honor Peter and his wife, Jenn, included Joni Poff, Jessica McClung, Denise and Bob Pollard, Becky and Rick Pollard, Anne and Glenn Bowe, and SML's Naomi and Alan Arthur.

Peter was recently appointed to Seattle's sports commission, so we reckon that his sunny disposition will keep radiating way yonder.

Now to zip back home for an invitation to sign up with a different sort of team:

Have you ever wondered if your home was haunted? Or would you like to team up with serious investigators of The Unexplained?

Virginia Appalachian Mountain Paranormal Investigations scientifically tests "things that go bump in the night." Much gets debunked and explained, but then there are other happenings, weird things caught on video, audio and other equipment...Yikes!

Anyone interested in joining or in making suggestions is invited to VAMP's May 2 meeting, 3 to 4:45 p.m., Roanoke County Public Library on Virginia 419. Mind, VAMP must approve applications before letting folks work with them.

For more information, including postings of past investigations: www.vampinvestigations.com.
