Safety Day/Open House

The Virginia State Police will hold its annual "Safety Day/Open House" on Oct. 17.

When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Virginia State Police Division VI Headquarters, 3775 West Main Street in Salem

There will be equipment exhibits, equipment demonstrations. Free refreshments. Something for all ages.

Pageant contestants

Two from Salem will compete this weekend in the Miss Roanoke Valley pageant.

Arielle Saige Rosmarino and Alyce Catherine Haynes are also both students at Radford University. The pageant will be held at Mill Mountain Theatre Saturday at 7 p.m.

The next day, Katlyn Irene Washenberger of Glenvar High School will be one of eight contestants in the Miss Teen Roanoke Valley pageant. It also will be held at Mill Mountain Theatre at 2 p.m. Sunday. To see all the contestants in that pageant, see The Notebook on sosalem.com.
