The Glenvar Branch Library is holding an End of Summer Pot Luck Picnic today, Aug. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Free moon bounce, obstacle course & slide, balloon tying, fire truck, and Wii gaming in the library.

Galax winners

Two people with ties to Salem won honors at the recent Old Fiddler's Convention in Galax.

Rusty Breedlove of Salem took 10th place in the bluegrass banjo competition.

Tina Steffey, whose husband Adam Steffey is mandolinist for Dan Tyminski Band, finished third in the clawhammer banjo competition. The couple had lived in Salem until recently, before moving to East Tennessee.
