Reading with the Red Sox

Recreation Club holds elections

Thomas Murdock

Thomas Murdock

"This is Thomas Murdock, son of our neighbors, Steve and Lynn Murdock. Thomas, a student at West Salem Elementary, participated in the Salem Red Sox Reading Program. This program, put together with the support of Averett University, is done to encourage reading as a foundation for learning and to provide incentives which are relevant to students. Partering up with area schools, the Salem Red Sox provide prizes as the kids reach their goals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd base. The faculty/staff at each school decides the goals so they can base it on grade levels and and individuals. Once a child hits a homerun, they get a free ticket to their school's night at the Salem Red Sox. On game night they get to participate in an on-field parade and receive their grand prize. Thomas was really excited about the game and being on the ball field."

Recreation Club holds elections

The North Salem Recreation Club will be holding its annual elections Sunday, June 21, at the Parks and Recreational office on Florida Street. The monthly meeting will begin at 4 p.m. followed by the elections. Any current paid member of the North Salem Rec Club may be nominated or run for office. The elections will include president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
