It was a warm night 80 miles south of Botetourt, but the JRHS Knights had a chilly reception at Fort Chiswell High School.
Boasting an accomplished running back, Chris Rodriguez, the 9-1 Pioneers from FCHS were surprised by the Knight attack in the first quarter and half, but size did mean something as the minutes ticked off.
The stadium packed on both sides and JRHS fans were not hesitant to drive to FCHS, a school pep bus and a tired marching band that had traveled 1,200 miles in four days, put forth best efforts as well. Cheerleaders cheered heartily though many would be heading to Richmond at 6 a.m. for the state competition. This was a true community and school effort to support the football team.
The final score was 38-14.
It was a good season for JRHS football and no one can take away from them the Pioneer District title win.
