On Saturday, Oct. 10, the William Byrd Middle and High School Cheerleading Booster Clubs sponsored the 2nd Annual Cheer Competition, "The Battle at Byrd. Cheering 4 a Cure!" directed by Lanny West at William Byrd High School. A total of 22 teams competed in several different divisions, from Recreation to High School. Teams traveled from as far as three hours away to compete. Read Mountain Middle School competed and placed 2nd in their division.
The girls are coached by Angela Myers and Kim DiVirgilio, both RMMS teachers. While the numbers aren't final, this competition raised over $4,000 for Research and Awareness of Breast Cancer. Planning is already in the works for next year's competition.
