The Roanoke Star Under 15 girls captured the championship medals at the Twin City Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Aug. 23. Five of the team's players are from Botetourt County -- Megan Kingery, Heather Reynolds, Logan Lumsden, Ally DuVall and Kendall Moyer.
The team won its first two matches, then finished in a 0-0 tie with the ICRD Lady Revolution. The Championship was decided by a shoot-out, which the Roanoke Star won 4-1.
Botetourt Central All-Stars win sportsmanship trophy
The Botetourt Central All Stars competed in the Dixie Youth Minors Subdistrict Tournament in Stewartsville earlier this summer. They took second place in the tourney after losing in the championship game to the eventual state champs. More importantly, Botetourt Central was awarded the tournament's Sportsmanship Trophy, an award voted on by all coaches and tournament staff for displaying outstanding sportsmanship throughout the event. The team made their families, fans, and Botetourt County proud.
