Botetourt Parks and Recreation is sponsoring tennis clinics again this summer. Michelle Newberry is the instructor and the classes are held at Ashley Plantation in Daleville next to the clubhouse and Limestone Park Courts in Buchanan next to the pool and at Blue Ridge Park courts.
The summer session registration began on June 22. Classes meet one time per week for six weeks and begin July 6 and end on August 15. There are three categories of classes:
Tiny Tots for children age 4-6, $50 one time per week for 30 minutes
Beginner for new and inexperienced players. Youth Age 8-11, 45 minutes 1 time per week $60; Teens age 12-15 1 hour, 1 time per week $75; Adult age 16 and up 1 hour 1 time per week, $75.
Intermediate for players who know the basics but to refine playing skills. Age 8-11 45 minutes 1 time per week. Youth age 8-11 45 minutes, 1 time per week $60. Teens age 12-15 90 minutes $110 1 time per week ; Adults age 16 and up 90 minutes, 1 time per week and $110.

Botetourt girls compete in state gymnastics championships
Roanoke Academy of Gymnastics Level 4 gymnasts compete in the USAG State Championships on May 16 and 17 in Hampton, VA.
Roanoke Academy of Gymnastics had 27 girls qualify and compete in the Level 4 State Championships. The local team placed fourth out of 19 teams.
Lauren Ogle, age 10, won the State Champion Title in floor for her age group, and tied for first in floor, tied for sixth on the vault, and tied for ninth on the beam and All Around.
Abbey Angel placed fourth in the Bars competition.
Autumn Harless placed second in the vault competition, fourth All Around, fifth in the floor competition, tied for fifth in the bars competition, and placed tenth in the beam competition.
Roanoke Valley Bandits 13U AAA baseball team wins State Tournament
The Roanoke Valley Bandits 13U AAA baseball team won the 14U AA State Tournament held in Salem on May 22-23. Six team members attend Read Mountain Middle School: Matthew Burd, Adam Thompson, Cameron Myers, Luke Waldek, Will Arney and Jared Arney.

Virginia Sonics 13U Basketball
The Virginia Sonics 13U basketball team placed second at the Faith Christian Shootout held in Roanoke on May 15-16. All members of the Virginia Sonics are residents of Botetourt County.
