Spring piano recital at Bonsack United Methodist

Sherrie Andrews of Daleville presented her piano students in their spring recital on Sunday, May 17, at Bonsack United Methodist Church. Students performing included Hayley Boland, Mary Claytor, David George, Jaclyn George, Mark George, Alexis Holland, Asia Holland, Russell Killian, Honor Mealey, Jessica Powell, Jenna Reed, and Gavin Vess.
A wide variety of music was on the program, including classical and contemporary pieces. Students performed both solo works and duets. The recital concluded with a trio performing the overture to Bizet's "Carmen". Six students received trophies for keeping an "A" grade average this year, including Hayley Boland, Mark George, Russell Killian, Honor Mealey, Jenna Reed and Kory Thomas.
"Skilled in Scales" awards went to Mark and David George, Alexis Holland, Russell Killian, Jessica Powell, Jenna Reed and Gavin Vess.
Alexis and Asia Holland received awards for "Piano Explorer Perfectionist", and Gavin Vess was named the year's "Prolific Composer," having written 123 measures of music.
Jenna Reed was named "Ace Music Reporter" and Russell Killian received the "Terrific Theorist" award.
Jo Ann Mooney received the "Most Enthusiastic" award for her dedication to piano study.
This year's "Memory Whiz" trophy was earned by David George for memorizing 1,038 measures of music.
"Rookie of the Year" honors went to Kory Thomas, and Jaclyn George was deemed "Most Improved Student."
Mark George earned the "Outstanding Student" trophy for 2009.
Andrews has been teaching in Daleville since 1986. She is a member of the Roanoke Valley and Virginia Music Teachers Association, and the Music Teachers National Association.
