Two former Lord Botetourt Marching Cavaliers, Matthew Bychowski (left) and Kara James (right) attended the recent ACC Championship game in Tampa, Florida, where the Virginia Tech Hokies won the game against Boston College, 30-12. Matthew, a 2000 Lord Botetourt graduate and Kara, a 2005 Lord Botetourt graduate, will be traveling with the band to Miami, Florida for the Orange Bowl game on January 1, 2009.

Stephanie Jeanette Oiler of Troutville and Anthony Fallon Ray of Daleville were among the 140 students who graduated Dec. 13 in Bluefield College's winter commencement.

James River grad completes Army basic training

Army Pvt. John M. Guill graduated from 17 weeks of basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., on Oct. 31. His company was 1st BN 19th N Foxtrot Company in infantry.

The 2002 James River High School graduate is now stationed at Fort Carson, Colo. His parents are Thomas and Donna Guill of Daleville.

Toy run

The cold didn't stop die hard riders from Eagle Rock riding in the Toys for Tots Run on Dec. 7. Doug and Daniel Bruce were just a few of hundreds of participants who were out helping the Marines with their annual toy drive.

Cubs learn TV

Cub Scout Pack 82 members visited WDBJ Channel 7 TV station and learned how the news is gathered and prepared before it is broadcast on T.V. each day. They were able to meet one or two of the news broadcasters as well.

The boys visited the weather deck, and saw a promo piece filmed.

 Local colors

More than fifty singers, representing 23 countries, filled the Atrium at the Taubman Museum on Sunday, Dec. 14 to hear the Local Colors International Choir. Local Colors. founded by Pearl Fu and under the music direction of Cheryl Lunsford of Fincastle, created a program of music to educate, entertain and to safe keep, the true, authentic, back porch folk songs from the countries represented in Local Colors. Some of the world folk songs performed were 600 years old, and came from countries such as Korea, China, Philippines, France, Ireland, Scotland, England, Haiti, Brazil, South Africa. Korean Dancers performed a Fan Dance, other dancers included East India, and the American Indians.
