Bedford County schools get $350,000 federal grant

The Bedford County school system has received a $350,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education as part of the No Child Left Behind program.

The No Child Left Behind Act requires schools that receive federal funding for low-income and at-risk children to meet a standard for student test scores each year. Schools that don't meet the testing standards for two years in a row must offer students the option of transferring to another school. The grant is part of the No Child Left Behind Improving Literacy Through School Libraries program. Under the program, funds can be used to purchase books, expand technological capabilities and pay for teacher training.
