Cannons blast Salem

Three Cannons drive in two runs each as Potomac rolls at home.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Jason Vavao hit a two-run homer and Salem third baseman Pat Peavey's throwing error led to two more runs as the Potomac Cannons rolled past the Avalanche 9-4 Wednesday night.

Miguel Perez added a two-run single and Joey Votto a two-run double for Potomac (25-33). Calvin Medlock got the win despite allowing four runs - three earned - on five hits in six innings with six strikeouts. Salem starter Jason Hirsh went only four innings, allowing four runs on four hits and six walks, but didn't take a decision. Monte Mansfield took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on Peavey's throwing error.

Mark Saccomanno had two hits for the Avalanche (23-35), and Ryan Kochen, Jon Helquist and Mark Obradovich each had an RBI in the loss.

Salem completes its series with Potomac tonight before heading to Winston-Salem.
