Public may join in process for Va. police reaccreditation
A three-member accreditation team will be in Richmond in August to assess the state police's policies and procedures, management, administration, operations, personnel structure and processes for compliance with standards set by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. Howard Shearer, retired director of the Delaware Municipal Court Security Division; Master Sgt. Albert Manint of the Illinois State Police; and retired Lt. Col. Thomas Hazlette of the Kentucky State Police will make up the team. They plan to take calls from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 11 at (866)897-7990, which is toll free. Comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the Virginia State Police's ability to comply with commission standards.
Comments may also be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, VA 22030-2201.
A copy of the standards can be viewed at www.calea.org.
The reaccreditation process takes place every three years. The Virginia State Police has been accredited since 1986.
