UVa expects signees not to turn pro

Virginia baseball coach Brian O'Connor said Thursday that he does not expect to lose any of the three signees who were selected in the draft earlier this week.

Pittsburgh selected left-handed pitcher Pat McAnaney in the 28th round, Florida selected infielder Joe Florio in the 39th round and Atlanta took pitcher-first baseman Sean Doolittle in the third round. McAnaney and Doolittle were the state players of the year in New York and New Jersey, respectively. Of the three UVa underclassmen who were drafted, third-round pick Andrew Dobies is expected to sign and 36th-round pick Jeff Kamrath is expected to stay. Cleveland took Kamrath, who missed the 2004 season after undergoing "Tommy John" elbow surgery, with the intent of signing him before the 2005 draft.

O'Connor said junior shortstop Mark Reynolds has a monetary figure that would prompt him to turn pro but, as a 16th-round pick by Arizona, may not be able to command it.
