BIRD EVENTS

The Southwest Virginia Bird Club's 10th Annual Bird Fair begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Roanoke Civic Center Exhibition Hall. POKER RUN

The K.R.I. Choppers sponsor a poker run to benefit Special Olympics of Virginia on Sunday. Ride will begin and end at Fort Lewis Fire Station in Salem. Babysitter Training classes will be offered June 21-July 26 at the Greenfield Educational & Training Center in Daleville. SAM DONALDSON

ABC news correspondent Sam Donaldson will be the keynote speaker at the American Red Cross, Roanoke Valley Chapter's annual meeting Friday. CONCERTS

The Roanoke Valley Community Band presents its annual spring concert at 7:30 tonight at Cave Spring High School, 3712 Chaparral Drive S.W. The concert will feature a variety of musical selections. A scholarship for a one-week music camp will be awarded to a local band student. Call 774-8885.

The Lakeside Singers will perform "Lights, Camera, Action! Let's Go to the Movies" at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Trinity Ecumenical Parish, Moneta. Tickets are $7 in advance of $8 at the door. Salem Health & Rehabilitation Center needs volunteers to make one-to-one visits with residents, help with activities and read or write letters. Groups also welcome to provide entertainment or help with arts and crafts.

Virginia Cooperative Extension needs volunteers to help in educating the public on issues of environmental horticulture. Training provided.

Veterans Affairs Medical Center needs drivers to transport patients/visitors from parking lots to clinic areas and help with clerical duties.

Roanoke residents can help keep city streets and parks clean year-round by becoming Roanoke Adopt-A-Park or Adopt-A-Street volunteers. Individuals, families, places of worship, groups and businesses may participate. Volunteers are asked to remove litter from adopted areas a minimum of four times a year.
