Entrevista con candidato Sam Rasoul

Summary: An interview with Sam Rasoul, Democratic candidate for the 6th Congressional District.
Sam Rasoul, candidato para congresista del estado, expresa durante la entrevista que sostuve con él su plataforma política, sus inquietudes iniciales y las razones que lo motivaron para postularse como candidato del Distrito Sexto.
La principal plataforma de Rasoul, un jóven de tan sólo 26 años, es la de devolverle la voz a la clase media, a los trabajadores de Virginia.
El, como otros 30 a 40 candidatos en el país, ha formado la coalición Change Congress. Esta coalición es una de las principales iniciativas en que este candidato promover.
¿Que elementos conforman este movimiento? ... Rasoul reponde lo siguiente:
"Deseo promover cambios en el Congreso que elimininen la corrupción existente y dar voz a la gente, no a los cabilderos o a los grupos con intereses particulares que se encuentran influenciando las decisiones en el Congreso."
Change Congress se resume en los siguientes puntos:
1. Financialmiento público para campañas políticas (no de dinero proveniente de individuos y corporaciones privadas)
2. Eliminar los fondos asignados para proyectos específicos (earmarks) del Congreso
3. Hacer las prácticas del gobierno más transparentes para que los ciudadanos sepan cuanto y donde se gasta el dinero.
4. No usar dinero proveniente de impuestos o de cabilderos para intereses de tipo político.
Rasoul añade que "el sistema está corrupto y que beneficia a los más ricos de esta sociedad -- es un sitema que deja atrás a la clase media americana ... pienso que Republicanos, Democratas, Libertarios e independientes tenemos que unirnos para reformar este sistema, porque en la actualidad realmente no tenemos una voz."
Rasoul reside en Botetourt County. Es graduado de Roanoke College, y a los 22 anos completó su maestría en International Business en Hawaii Pacific University. El y su esposa Layaly son pequeños empresarios en el area y están listos para trabajar por la clase trabajadora de Virginia. Rasoul cree que la mejor manera de mejorar el mundo alrededor de él, es a través del desarrollo económico; porque con empleos de calidad y salarios adecuados, se mejorá la calidad de vida. Su panfleto recita lo siguiente: "Estoy de candidato para dar voz a la olvidada clase media."
¿Y con respecto al tema latino y de inmigración?
Primeramente, Rasoul piensa que se debe promover la inmigración legal. Este candidato apoya una reforma comprensiva y justa, así como programas de trabajadores temporales. Invita a la comunidad hispana de Roanoke a tomar un papel más activo y a participar en los procesos electorales. Con respecto a ésto último, Rasoul trabajará con líderes de nuestra comunidad para establecer el registro de votantes hispanos. Reconoce la importancia de participar de ésta que es la minoría más grande en el país, y trabajará para mejorar la imagen de este grupo.
Rasoul rechaza el término "illegal immigrant" y prefiere utilizar el de "undocumented immigrant." También reconoze las aportaciones que los hispanos brindan al estado de Virginia y la importancia de que tengan una voz en las decisiones políticas del estado.
Rasoul es sin lugar a dudas un candidato producto de una nueva generación de jóvenes ciudadanos preocupados por darle al país un nueva dirección. El es un candidato de corte liberal e ideas progresistas, que trabajará por la implementación de más democráticas reformas y por su motivación principal: devolverle la voz al pueblo.

Interview with Sam Rasoul
Virginia's 6th District candidate
Sam Rasoul, candidate for Virginia's Congress, talkes during an interview about his political carrer, his personal reasons, and why he wants to represent Virginia's 6th district. He is a young man of only 26 years of age, whose main political aspiration is to give a voice to the forgotten middle class, the working people of Virginia.
He as well as other 30 to 40 candidates across the nation, has created a coalition called ChangeCongress. This coalition is the principal initiative that this candidate wishes to promote.
What elements conform this movement?...Rasoul responds the following:
"I wish to promote changes in the Congress that help to eliminate the existing corruption and give voice to the people, no the lobbyists or the groups with particular interests that are influencing the decisions made in congress."
Change for Congress can be summarized by the following:
1- Public financial for the campains
2-Get rid off earmarks in congress
3-Making goverment more tranparent so we understand how much and where money is spent
4-No money used from taxes or lobbyists for political interests
Rasoul adds: "the system is corrupt and benefits only the very wealthy in society and leaves the American middle class behind...I think Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians and Independents we all should work together to reform this system, because in present time we don't really have a voice".
This young and commited candidate, lives in Boretout County. He's a graduate of Roanoke College and at 22 Sam completed his Masters Degree in International Business Administration. He and his wife Layaly are small business entrepreneurs in the area, and both of them are ready to fight for working families. Rasoul beleives the best way to improve the world around him, is through economic develompent because with quality jobs and adequate wages come an improved quality of life. His flier reads: "I am running to give a voice to the forgotten middle class".
What he thinks about Latino and immigration issues?
First, Sam thinks that legal immigration should be encouraged and promoted. This candidate supports a comprehensive immigration reform and temporary guest worker programs. He invites the Hispanic community of Raonoke to have a more active presence and invites Latinos to participate in the electoral process. Rasoul will work with leader of our community in the registration of Hispanic voters.
He's also aware of the importance of the participation of this minority, the largest in the country, and rejects the use of the term "illegal immigrant". He prefers to use "undocumented immigrant" and also knows of the contributions that Hispanics bring to the Comonwealth and the importance of their voice in the state's political decisions.
Sam Rasoul is without a doubt a candidate from a new generation of young citizens preocupied for giving the country a new direction. He is a candidate of liberal and progressive ideas that will work for the implementation of more democratic reforms, and above all, for his main motivation: giving back voice to the people.
