En esta semana les ofreceré algunos avisos sobre lo que está aconteciendo en la comunidad. Es importante mantenerse informado y al tanto de programas y eventos que pueden beneficiarlo a usted y a su familia.
Hace tan sólo unos años, cuando el número de latinos en Roanoke era mínimo, no contabamos en la ciudad con servicios que ahora son llevados a los hispanos del area.
Agencias y organizaciones le ofrecen a usted y a su familia ayuda para que pueda tener una mejor calidad de vida. Salud, educación, vivienda y otros importantes aspectos que cubrir.
A continuación algunos avisos ...
n Clínica Dental de Mission of Mercy
Primeramente quisiera recordarles las fechas 25 y 26 de abril cuando se llevará a cabo la clínica de servicio dental (gratis). Recuerde que debe estar ahí temprano, ya que desde las 6 de la mañana estarán recibiendo pacientes. Para su comodidad, habrá algunos traductores que Mission of Mercy está recrutanto y facilitar así la comunicación entre usted y el personal médico. La clínica es para personas mayor de 18 años.
El Roanoke Civic Center se encuentra localizado sobre West Orange Avenue y Williamson Road.
n Coro Infantil Hispano invita a los niños y niñas a participar
Este es un programa cultural que organiza el grupo HACIENDA con el fin de presentarse en el festival de Local Colors el 17 de mayo. Estos niños(as) hispanos representarán a la comunidad en este evento. Los ensayos son todos los domingos a las 3 de la tarde en Elmwood Park (esquina de Elm Avenue y Jefferson Street). Lleve a sus hijos al parque para que además de divertirse y hacer nuevos amigos apoyen con su participación. Estas actividades son importantes para los niños, ya que les integran, les ayudan a socializar, y es además, una buena oportunidad para que los chicos conozcan las tradiciones de sus padres y reafirmen o practiquen el español.
HACIENDA se encuentra conversando con algunos dueños de negocios hispanos para conseguir una cantidad de dinero con la cual se financiará una donación que estos niños ofrecerán a la ciudad en nombre de la comunidad. La idea es comprar árboles o pinos para algún área o parque de la ciudad, o bien, para la zona deforestada a causa de los incendios recientes. Si usted desea hacen una donación para hacer realidad esta iniciativa, por favor llame al (540) 309-5053.
n Cónsul General se entrevista con el alcalde
El día 10 de mayo a las 4 de la tarde se tiene programada una reunión entre el Cónsul General Enrique Escorza y el Alcalde Nelson Harris. Este visita está siendo organizada y coordinada por miembros de HACIENDA quienes han ayudado como enlace entre la Sección Consular de la Embajada de México en Washington, D.C. y la oficina del alcalde.
El propósito de la visita de Escorza es el de promover un mutuo conocimiento y entendimiento entre la comunidad mexicana/hispana y las autoridades locales y la ciudad de Roanoke. El cónsul desea presentarse y compartir con el alcalde información útil sobre el grupo que representa.
Esta información puede ayudar a facilitar las relaciones del gobierno local y algunos de sus departamentos con este nuevo sector que vive en Roanoke y condados vecinos.
Cifras demográficas, aspectos, socio-económicos, rasgos culturales y otras importantes areas desea Escorza dialogar durante su visita. El uso de la Matrícula Consular como documento de identificación válido, es un tema que es prioritario para este oficial del gobierno mexicano.

Announcements of the month
This week, I'm offering you a few announcements regarding what's happening in our community. It is important to be well informed and up to date with the programs and events that are of benefit to you and your family.
Just a few years ago, when the number of Latinos was minimal, we did not have in this area services that are now available for persons of Hispanic origin.
Agencies and organizations offer help for your family so that you can enjoy a better quality of life. Health, education, housing and other important issues are covered.
Here are the announcements ...
n Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic
First of all, please remember to arrive very early on the dates of April 25 and 26 for the free dental clinic. Patients will be seen beginning at 6 a.m. on those days. There will be translators provided by the Mission of Mercy so that you may have easy communication with the dental personnel. The clinic is for adults 18 and older. It will be located at the Roanoke Civic Center on Williamson Road and Orange Avenue.
n Hispanic Children's Chorus invites all boys and girls to sing!
This is a cultural program organized by the HACIENDA group to be presented during the Local Colors Festival on May 17. These children will represent their community in this event. Please take your boys and girls to the rehearsals every Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Elmwood Park (Jefferson Street and Elm Avenue) downtown.
The activities will earn them new friends, provide them with an afternoon of fun, and allow them to learn about their rich heritage both in song, dress, culture and language. HACIENDA members are in close communication with some of the local Hispanic business owners that will provide donations for a gift for the city and in the name of the Hispanic community. The idea is to purchase some young trees to be planted in some areas of the city or in parks. It's in support of being a green community. If you would like to donate a small quantitiy of cash to make this initiative a reality, please call at (540) 309 5053.
n Interview of general consul with mayor
On May 1 at 4 p.m., an interview is scheduled between General Consul Enrique Escorza and Mayor Nelson Harris. This visit is organized by members of HACIENDA by facilitating the meeting of these two gentlemen and also by working as a liaison between the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C., and the Mayor's Office.
The reason for the meeting is to allow the two entities to meet and converse about the various aspects of cooperation between the city of Roanoke and its departments and the Hispanic community. Escorza will be presenting many interesting topics including data about population demographics, economic, social and cultural aspects of Latin life to Harris. The use of the Consular ID card as a valid document, will be one of the issues disscussed at the meeting and favored by the Mexican government.
