Lograr tener una educación universitaria es un sueño que muchos de nuestros jóvenes tienen durante sus años de formación académica. Desafortunadamente muchos de ellos no cuentan con los medios económicos para hacer realidad sus planes de convertirse en profesionales. Algunos, ante esta espectativa, y aún teniendo un gran potencial para ingresar a la universidad, se desaniman y prefieren buscar empleo o en el peor de los casos, abandonan sus estudios de bachillerato .
Es preocupante el alto grado de deserción escolar que existe dentro de la comunidad hispana en los Estados Unidos, y como resultante de ello, el bajo nivel académico en nuestra población
Como consecuencia directa, una gran mayoría de nuestros jóvenes desempeñan trabajos de rendimiento físico, u otros que les limitan un crecimiento personal adecuado y el desarrollo de sus capacidades reales. Esto crea un estancamiento en el ascenso social económico y cultural de muchos jóvenes hispanos.
Afortunadamente, existen algunas asociaciones que ayudan a los estudiantes de bajos recursos por medio de becas para su educación universitaria, las cuales se ofrecen sin tomar en cuenta su estado migratorio. No es necesario tener la residencia permanente ni la ciudadanía americana para obtenerlas.
MALDEF es una lista de las diferentes fundaciones y organismos que ayudan a los estudiantes de origen hispano a continuar con su educación profesional. Algunas tienen requisitos de edad, carreras en particular, deportes, etc., pero siendo la lista de aproximadamente 64, existen muchas oportunidades y diferentes opciones.
Si usted es un estudiante o conoce alguno que desee continuar sus estudios universitarios y necesite ayuda, por favor conserve esta columna para una futura referencia. Scholarships for Hispanic students
Obtaining a university education is a dream that a lot of our youth have during the years of their academic formation. Unfortunately a lot of them don't have the economic help to make their plans of becoming a professional happen. Some of them, in the face of this scenario, even though they have great potential to go to college, get discouraged. They prefer to look for a job and in the worst cases, they drop out of high school.
The high dropout rate for Hispanics in the United States is worrisome, as is the resulting low academic level in our population.
As a direct consequence, a great majority of our young men and women perform manual labor and other jobs that limit their personal grow, and the development of their true skills. This halts the social, cultural and economic ascent of these young Hispanics.
Fortunately, there are associations that help students of low-income families with scholarships for college education, and which are offered regardless of their migratory status. It's not necessary to have permanent residence or American citizenship to obtain them.
MALDEF is a list of the different foundations and organisms that help students of Hispanic origin continue with a professional education. Some of them have specific requirements regarding age, particular majors, sports, etc., but with a list of approximately 64 associations, there are many opportunities and different options.

It is important to remind you that the preparation to obtain a college scholarship and the complete registration process take time, and that students beginning 12th grade next school year should be looking for a college beginning now, and should also initiate the application process for a scholarship or financial aid necessary for their high education tuition.
