Eufracio Amezquita-Marmolejo was driving a 1991 Nissan Sentra southbound on Virginia 610 shortly after 5 p.m. when the car ran off the right shoulder, according to a report filed by Trooper J.B. Cline of the Virginia State Police. Amezquita-Marmolejo overcorrected, running the car off the left side of the road and into a tree. Amezquita-Marmolejo's age and residence were unavailable from the report.

A passenger, Julio Esparza, 17, was taken to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County, where he died a couple of hours after the wreck.

It is unclear whether charges will be filed against Amezquita-Marmolejo.
