New Mount Zion celebrates 100 years

New Mount Zion Lutheran Church will celebrate its 100th year of worship Sept. 12 with a special worship service beginning at 11:15 a.m., followed by lunch at 1 p.m. and a program at 2 p.m. The church is at 2305 Poverty Creek Road in Blacksburg. For more information, call 552-1810.

Good Shepherd Church of the Brethren in Blacksburg will hold the first Taize prayer service of the season on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. The services will be held on the second Friday of each month throughout the fall. Taize is a candlelight service of song, silence, prayer and scripture. The church is located at 950 Heather Drive. For more information, call 961-0354.

On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Trinity Baptist Church in Christiansburg will kick off its Awana clubs for the 2004-05 season with a hot dog supper and meeting with club leaders. The clubs will serve children 3 years old through eighth grade. Clubs will begin regular meetings Sept. 15. The church is at 1505 N. Franklin St. For more information, call 382-8121.

Upcoming religion events

NRV Christian Motorcyclist Association. Sunday, 2 p.m., McDonald's parking lot, Dublin. Mountain Curve Riders In His Service Christian Motorcyclist Association Chapter will meet for a long ride. Tajweed Halaqa will be after Maghreb prayer, which begins at 7:55 p.m. On Saturday the mosque will hold a community meeting to draft a plan for activities for the coming year and planning for Ramadan. Inquiry sessions. St. Jude Catholic Church, 1740 Tyler Road, Radford, will offer inquiry sessions Tuesday evenings for those interested in converting to Catholicism beginning Sept. 14. The sessions will include presentations and question and answer sessions and will meet after 7 p.m. Mass. 639-5341.

Holiness revival. Greater Mount Zion United Holiness Church, 385 Depot St., Christiansburg, will hold a revival Sept. 13-17, nightly at 7 p.m. Apostle J.E. Jackson of Texas will be the guest speaker and local community choirs will supply music. 382-3871.
