Thursday, September 16, 2004 Prayer's powerROANOKE.COM COLUMNIST Whenever you think you are going through trials and tribulations, just look around because someone is doing a lot worse than you. I was talking to my brother, who was complaining about the recent storm that hit Richmond and about the mess that was left and the heavy cleanup that is under way. I asked him, suppose you were living in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi or Louisiana? He immediately said to me, "I need to be quiet because look at what they are going through." Like many of you, I have been praying for our brothers and sisters who live on the Gulf Coast. They have gone through so much and it looks like much more is to come. Yet, they have been blessed. Things could have been a whole lot worse. We may lose possessions, but remember that is only "stuff." Those things can be replaced. I am thankful that the loss of life seems to have been minimal. I believe that things were not as bad as they could have been because people around the nation were praying. Prayer is awesome. I am aware that most churches in the valley had special prayer and I know that those prayers were answered. It is interesting how threats of danger can bring us together. My prayer is that we would not just show a spirit of unity or pray for one another whenever we are faced with a tragedy, but that we will pray for each other continually. |
