Advertising and Sales
The Roanoke Times/roanoke.com offers area businesses the best reach to local consumers of any media. In addition to this superior reach, there are targeted products that can be the best fit for an advertiser's message. Our advertising team works consultatively with area businesses to determine the best marketing approach to meet their needs.
Our advertising team consists of sales managers, outside sales representatives, inside sales representatives, sales assistants, ad designers and market analysts.
Business Office
The staff of the business office ensures that all our business practices reflect accuracy and integrity. They manage the financial records of the company and maintain the company billing system. Many departments rely on information provided in reports produced by the business office, and they are an important link with our outside customers, both in accounts payable and receivable.
Positions in the business office include accountants, systems analysts and billing clerks.
Circulation
The circulation team is responsible for the acquisition and retention of newspaper subscribers and single copy buyers, in addition to managing the delivery of over 100,000 newspapers per day. We also support the marketing and distribution of our many niche and specialty publications.
Circulation staff includes delivery and operations managers, sales managers, data analysts, customer service representatives, and marketing professionals.
Human Resources
Every business needs to attract and retain the best employees, and The Roanoke Times/roanoke.com has a staff with this focus. The human resources office not only helps fill openings with the company, but they also provide training, diversity support and special events throughout the year for all employees.
Positions in human resources include recruiters and human resources support staff.
Information Technology
The information technology team provides guidance and support for the multiple computer systems throughout the company. From the minute an ad is entered in our system or an article is first written by a reporter all the way through to that day's paper rolling off the press we rely on our computer systems to run our business. We also rely on our staff receiving the proper systems training to be most effective, and we need a team that stays up with current trends and keeps our technology up to date.
This team includes systems analysts, it technicians, trainers, and programmers.
Marketing and Promotions
The marketing and promotions department manages our relationship with consumers and readers. They plan and implement initiatives (ad campaigns, special events, etc.) that build interest in our products, increase our audience and enhance our image in the community.
This team includes creative project managers, promotion assistants, and tour guides.
News
The news team researches and writes the content we provide to our print and web audience.
They also manage the graphic appearance of our products, from the design of the pages to the photo illustrations to
explanatory charts.
The news positions include editors, reporters, researchers, photographers, page designers,
illustrators and editorial assistants
Production
Our production department handles the printing and packaging of our products. They manage the pre-press system that create the files for the press and then operate the web press that can print full color on every page (one of the few in the country with this capability). The packaging team manages the assembly of the newspaper with all of the preprinted inserts, and organizes and packs the papers for the delivery trucks. This department also is responsible for building maintenance, safety procedures and oversight of the delivery vendor.
Functions in this department include press operators, pre-press computer operators, sorting and packing crews, maintenance staff, and a safety officer.

The online team not only develops content in conjunction with our print content, but also provides exclusive online features. roanoke.com is also the leading local virtual marketplace, and we work closely with the advertising department to meet the increasing online needs of our advertisers.
