Group tries to rack up some bicycle commuters

The Ticker business blog

The latest from The Ticker blog

A Roanoke Valley organization is looking for 10 health and environment-conscious area employers to accept free bike racks designed to promote two-wheeled commuting. RIDE Solutions, the regional ride-sharing solution, is accepting applications from interested employers through June 30.

The program will install the bike racks, with an estimated $100 value, at the employer's address. The employers will keep the racks painted and the bolts tightened.

It's all part of an effort to encourage bicycle commuting. For those who are uncertain, there's some solace perhaps in the knowledge that the RIDE Solutions program pledges to pay cab fare for any non-car commuter who gets stuck without a way home from work. Details can be found at ridesolutions.org.
