Hiring younger chief will save Downtown Roanoke Inc. money
Bill Carder was 55 years old when he became president of Downtown Roanoke Inc. in November 2007. His starting annual salary was $85,000. When Carder left DRI abruptly in March his salary was $90,000.
On Monday, DRI announced it has hired a new president. Pittsburgh native Sean Luther is 27 years old. When he starts work Oct. 26, his starting annual salary will be $72,500. Thus, DRI has saved $17,500.
DRI is a not-for-profit, downtown development group. Luther is taking the new job after working as an economic development specialist for the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.
Ben Motley, chairman of the DRI board of directors, said in a release Monday that "Sean possesses a depth of experience in downtown revitalization that exceeds his standing as a young professional."
