ADMMicro honored at technology gala
The company, one of a handful of honorees, was picked by a tech council as the region's rising star.
ADMMicro, a Roanoke company whose patented systems help clients monitor, manage and cut energy expenses, won a high-power award Thursday night from the business community.
ADM garnered the Rising Star Award at the annual TechNite gala thrown by the NewVa Corridor Technology Council.
The banquet celebrates technology-oriented people, businesses and organizations in the Roanoke and New River valleys and nearby communities. More than 400 people attended the event at the Hotel Roanoke.
ADM was founded in 2002 by a group dominated by former American Electric Power employees. Today, with 50 employees, the company occupies a signature property visible from Interstate 581.
Clients seeking energy-reduction help include Advance Auto Parts, Target, Bob Evans Farms and the U.S. Postal Service. ADM expects revenue to reach $100 million by 2012, the company recently told CNNMoney.com.
Other winners were as follows:
n Entrepreneur Award: James Rancourt, founder and chief executive officer of Polymer Solutions Inc. The Blacksburg laboratory offers chemical analysis, physical testing, research and other services.
n NewVa Leadership Award: Neil Wilkin, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Roanoke-based Optical Cable Corp. Wilkin "not only succeeds in the workplace, but also leads by example by contributing significantly to the community in which we live," the honor stated.
n Innovation Award: Attaain Inc., a Blacksburg company whose specialty is business and market intelligence. Its forte is "thought leadership and innovation," the award states.
n Educator Award: Molly Bullington, teacher and co-director at the Center for Engineering at the Burton Center for Arts and Technology in Salem, and Georgette Yakman, a technology educator at Pulaski County High School. They won for their promotion of "math, science and/or use of technology in creative ways to transfer knowledge and help develop future technology leaders," their honor stated.
n People's Choice Award: Wireless MedCARE. The first-time award was voted on by TechNite participants.
