Candy retailer plots sweet arrival in Salem

"Something sweet is coming to Salem." This teaser has been broadcast across radio waves and on TV and billboards.

The "something sweet" is Nancy's Candy Co.

The candy manufacturer, based in Meadows of Dan, is bringing a store to Lakeside Plaza on Electric Road. It will open Monday in a 2,200-square-foot space between Kroger and CVS Pharmacy.

The shop will be a haven for chocolate and candy lovers, with 45 flavors of fudge and 65 chocolate flavors, including artisan truffles. It also will sell hard candies and candy accessories, such as chocolate bubble bath and soap.

Nancy Galli, who founded the company in 1987, said she chose the location because it reminded her of the former Lakeside Amusement Park. She'll even display memorabilia from the park, closed since 1986, inside the shop.

The Salem spot is her company's third store.
