EDUCATION
ART PRICE, adjunct faculty member with Radford University in the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism, has been reappointed to teach for an additional three-year period with the rank of instructor. He is also the director of parks and recreation for the town of Christiansburg and recently was recertified as a certified parks and recreation professional with the Virginia Recreation and Park Society and the National Recreation and Park Association.
Virginia Tech's College of Architecture and Urban Studies has named GERRY KEARNS as director of the School of Public and International Affairs.
Gov. Tim Kaine recently appointed three new members to the Virginia Tech board of visitors: FREDERICK COBB, DOUGLAS FAHL and CALVIN JAMISON. BEVERLY DALTON was reappointed.
GENE SEAGO, the R.B. Pamplin Professor of Accounting at Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business, received the 2008 Outstanding Tax Educator Award, co-sponsored by the American Taxation Association and Ernst & Young.
NORRINE BAILEY SPENCER, associate provost and director of undergraduate admissions at Virginia Tech, was conferred the associate provost and director emerita title by the Virginia Tech board of visitors.
MICHAEL KELLY, dean of Virginia Tech's College of Natural Resources, has announced his retirement, effective September 2009.
RUSSELL JONES, professor of psychology in the College of Science at Virginia Tech, has been named to a new subcommittee in the department of health and human services.
JERRY WILLIAMS, associate professor of horticulture in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, was conferred the associate professor emeritus title by the Virginia Tech board of visitors.
JAMES BAKER, professor of crop and soil environmental sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, was conferred the professor emeritus title by the Virginia Tech board of visitors.
CHARLES "JACK" DUDLEY, retired professor of sociology in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and past director of the University Honors Program at Virginia Tech, was conferred the professor and director emeritus title by the Virginia Tech board of visitors.
BARBARA RYDER, professor and head of the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, was named the J. Byron Maupin Professor by the Virginia Tech board of visitors.
JANAKI ALAVALAPATI has been named head of the Department of Forestry in the College of Natural Resources at Virginia Tech.
SHARON KUREK has been named director of internal audit at Virginia Tech.

Draper Aden Associates announced that SAM LIONBERGER JR. and CHARLES CATLETT III have joined its board of directors.
HEALTH CARE
Psychological Health in Roanoke announced the addition of DR. MARVIN GARDNER to its staff.
Michele Meinhart of Starkey Medical PC announced the opening of Starkey Medical Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine Center. DR. ALISE MAGNUSON has been named medical director.

LEIGH RHOADS STRELKA has joined Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore, LLP, as an associate attorney in the labor and employment and commercial litigation practice groups.
ELIZABETH GUILBERT PERROW has been named as principal in the Roanoke office of Woods Rogers PLC.

Commonwealth Catholic Charities announced the addition of SUSAN MARSHALL, as program coordinator for Independence for Seniors, and PAUL MOCERI, as quality assurance specialist for the Treatment Foster Care program.

Roanoke Police Chief A. L. "JOE" GASKINS was presented with the President's Award at the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Awards Banquet.
