FINANCIAL
CHRISTOPHER THOMAS, a Certified Financial Planner, recently was ranked No. 19 by Bank Investment Consultant magazine, a publication covering the bank brokerage industry.
LAURIE HART has been named vice president of commercial banking and senior deposit officer for HomeTown Bank.
DONNA YOUNG of HomeTown Bank has successfully completed the National Automated Clearing House Association examination.
HEALTH
DR. E. MARK WATTS was elected director from District 6 to the Medical Society of Virginia board of directors at the annual meeting in October. He also is president-elect of the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians.
REAL ESTATE
DANIEL BROWN, an agent with RE/MAX Valley Realtors, has been awarded the residential construction certified designation.
ARCHITECTURE
T. MICHAEL JONES was promoted to principal associate in the Roanoke Buildings Division at Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern, an architectural and design firm. MIKE JONES, W. CRAIG HAMILTON and DAVID HENDERSON were promoted to principal associate in the Roanoke Civil/Environmental Division at the same firm.
ROBERT STRICKLAND has been appointed director of healthcare design in the building division of HSMM.
MICHAEL H. FARISS has been named president of J.M. Turner & Co., general contractors and construction managers.
SFCS Inc. has added the following staff to its Roanoke office: ADAM D'ALESSANDRO as a structural engineer in training; JUSTINE SOWERS as an interior designer and ASHTON McCAULEY as an office services assistant.
TREVA CARTER, a marketing manager with SFCS, has been designated as a certified professional services marketer by the Society for Marketing Professional Services.

ANDREW GOLDSTEIN of Magee, Foster, Goldstein & Sayers has been named to "Best Lawyers in America" for 2008 in bankruptcy and creditor/debtor rights law.
KENNETH LASKY of the same firm has been named to "Best Lawyers in America" for 2008 in immigration law.
