Recent stories
In May, Chick-fil-A will debut its fifth location in the Roanoke Valley.
A new Chick-fil-A is going up on Southern Hills Drive in Roanoke.
According to the fast-food chain based in Atlanta, the new eatery will have 4,227 square feet and be located near Home Depot and Starbucks.
It will employ 65 people.
In 1983, the Roanoke area's first Chick-fil-A opened at Tanglewood Mall. The eatery since has expanded to Valley View Mall, a free-standing location on Valley View Boulevard and Virginia Western Community College.
Nationally, Chick-fil-A had sales of $2 billion in 2006.
First Market Bank
This summer, First Market Bank's first free-standing branch will open in the Roanoke Valley.
The new branch for First Market, which is owned by Ukrop's Super Market, is opening beside West Village, a retail center on Virginia 419 in Roanoke County, according to Katie Gilstrap, a spokeswoman for First Market.
Its opening date was not released.
The bank has another Roanoke area branch inside Ukrop's on Franklin Road.
Construction on another phase of West Village has begun, though there's no word yet on which retailers the center will house. West Village developers have not returned calls for comment on the center's progress.
Frank's Pizza
Frank's Pizza will debut in Salem in March. As previously reported, the restaurant is moving into a space at 14 E. Main St., which formerly housed Surf & Turf Grill.
Renovations have begun at the new eatery which co-owner Patricia Giovannini said she plans to decorate with scenes from Florence and Venice. Giovannini and her husband, Marco, own the restaurant, along with Patricia's mother, Frances Corigliano.
The Corigliano family also operates Frank's Pizza & Subs at Hunting Hills Plaza in Southwest Roanoke, where John and Joey Corigliano are the primary owners.
The new Salem restaurant will seat 100 patrons, serving pizza, subs, salads and other typical fare. It also will serve beer and wine.
