File Types:


We build and will accept online ads in the following formats: Flash (SWF), JPG, GIF, HTML. If designing ads in Flash, please send a backup JPG or GIF for each creative.
*We have special instructions for the submission of Flash ads.

*Note: roanoke.com uses Real Media Open AdStream (OAS) to serve our campaigns. Please submit all creative, html, or 3rd party tags to onlineadteam@roanoke.com.

Standard ad creative should be submitted at least 3 business days prior to the start of your campaign. Campaigns utilizing rich media elements should be submitted at least 5 business days ahead of start date for testing purposes.
All ads must be submitted to roanoke.com for approval. We reserve the right to accept and reject advertising creative on a case by case basis.

We accept the following Eyeblaster ad formats:

The following ads may be subject to frequency capping:


Floating Ad (Medium)

Pixel size: Max. 400 * 400 pixels
File size: Max 100K
Max play length: 10 seconds and the ad must close automatically after 10 seconds.
All ads must have a PROMINENT “CLOSE X” button.
Frequency caps are required.

Polite Banner

Sound must be user-initiated and must have a PROMINENT “SOUND OFF” button.
File size: Max 100K

Expandable Banner

Must be user initiated
File size: Max 100K
All ads must have a PROMINENT “CLOSE X” button.

Dynamic Logic
Atlas DMT (AvenueA): Make sure the HTML banners on the Atlas DMT (AvenueA) servers are using the click command which will ensure click tracking on OAS's end.
Bluestreak
DoubleClick: Make sure the HTML banners on the DC servers are using the click command which will ensure click tracking on Real Media's end.
Google: A Google rich media ad cannot be modified to track clicks since it uses an external javascript file. Google records all clicks. Google will not allow us to track clicks.
Interpolls
Mediaplex: Make sure the HTML banners on the Mediaplex servers are using the click command which will ensure click tracking on Real Media's end. We use the click variable, mpvc, to track clicks.
OAS JX Tag
Poindexter: Make sure the HTML banners on the Poindexter servers are using the click command which will ensure click tracking on OAS's end.

General Ad Requirements:

  • Ads in roanoke.com e-mail newsletters cannot use rich media.
  • Sound effects of less than 1 second are acceptable without user initiation. Roanoke.com reserves the right to prohibit such sound if deemed too intrusive.
  • All click interactions that initiate the load of a new web site must open that web site in a new browser window. A click can launch only one new browser window.
  • Frequency caps can be applied to campaigns at the advertiser’s request. A maximum of one type of cap will be applied per campaign.
  • All ads must have a click url.

*Flash Specifications:

  • must be published in Flash 5 or higher
  • all locally served Flash ads need to have a clickTAG encoded rather than a hard coded click-through command:
on (release) {getURL(clickTAG,"_blank"); }
  • a default gif must be submitted for visitors without Flash
  • client must submit both .swf and .fla files. If modifications to the .FLA are necessary, we will ask that you either 1) provide all required fonts in Windows TrueType or Type 1 format, or 2) ensure all internal text is flattened/broken (this option prohibits the editing of text elements).
